Preserving the good times and letting go of painful memories is the most obvious action for any human being. While memories occupy a space of their own in our hearts and minds, there are many ways in which we can enhance the process of remembrance. Clicking photographs of loved ones and joyous events and even making video films of the good times are some of the most popular methods for preserving and reliving the good old times. A family album is therefore the most cherished possession of many people and it is sure to bring a smile to your face whenever you review the album. On a similar line of thought, a scrapbook is created to preserve the photographs and events in a colorful and memorable manner. Scrapbooking as an activity has always been popular among both children and adults.

Scrapbooking consists of preserving one’s history through the photographs, written words and other memorabilia. The effect is completely visual and at times even tactile that helps the viewer travel back in time through the art of scrapbooking. An age old art, scrapbooking has again been revived and given a fresh lease of life, thanks to the advent of online scrapbooking sites. The hobby of creating scrapbooks has achieved tremendous popularity in countries like the United States of America due to the added attraction of online scrapbooking sites. The many options and facilities available in an online website make the art of making a creatively designed scrapbook much more convenient for the creator.

The online scrapbooking sites offer a wide range of layout ideas which could be starting point for many beginners or a reference point for practiced professionals. Once a layout idea is in place, scrapbooking could be taken to great heights by applying every form of creativity possible through the online tools and accessories. One can even select a layout design and style, implement it virtually to check if it is looking as attractive as one thought it to be. In case the layout does not appeal to the online scrapbook user, the user could have it changed at the click of a mouse. In this paper a variety of layouts, designs and styles could be easily tried out till one style is fixed. Further tools and embellishments are easily available to complete the entire scrapbook. Once completed, the user has an online scrapbook ready to be shared with his friends and family over the internet.

Scrapbooking is meant to creatively portray a particular event that has occurred and preserve it for ever in one’s memory. A scrapbooking idea could be inspired from anyone or any surrounding. A birthday bash would make a brilliant scrapbooking idea as would a family wedding or maybe even your toddler’s first day at school. The colorful pages of your scrapbook will ensure that the event stands still in time, ready to bring a smile to your face whenever you want to travel back in time through the creative and original art of scrapbooking.

The season of thanks is upon us, and we want to capture those family memories in a way they will always be easily recalled, for life’s good times always slip quickly away, like sand sifting through an hour glass. One fine scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving is to create a recipe memoir, which tells the history of your family’s thanksgiving in the form of recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Here are some tips on how to organize your Thanksgiving recipe scrapbook memoir material.

Gather all the recipes you want to include in the memoir and any photos or ephemera you want associated with the presentation. Take your time with this phase of the operation, no matter how anxious you may be about completing your scrapbook ideas for Thanksgiving before the holiday. You will feel terrible if you omit one Thanksgiving scrapbook idea and then find it after you have completed the memoir / scrapbook.

As you gather recipes and photos for your scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving, make some notes about each one. In fact, buy a special journal just for these notes and keep it for other scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving.

How does reading about the recipe make you feel? What special memories does it evoke? Are there any family tales or funny stories associated with the recipe? Is it hand-written or typed? Write down your thoughts as they cross your mind. Make a rough sketch of your pages so you will know what will go where and what supplies you will need to fulfill your Thanksgiving scrapbook ideas.

Decide on a format for your scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving. One effective scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving is to organize the material as if it were a cookbook to be passed down to future generations. You are creating a family heirloom just as priceless as any other, and maybe even more so because of the specific effort involved. If you wish to use a cookbook format as your scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving, consider dividing the book into different sections just like you would find in a real cookbook; one for appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc. Instead of an appendix, list the names of those whose recipes you have included.

Do not scrimp on materials for your scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving. You want your memoir to last, and it won’t without purchasing fine quality materials. Don’t be afraid to try something different for your scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving. What about chalking, paper piercing or punch art for your cookbook/scrapbook memoir?

If you decide to go with chalking as one of your scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving, practice adding and blending colors on a separate sheet before applying chalk to a cutout to get a feel for blending techniques. Chalking is a very inexpensive scrapbooking idea for Thanksgiving and is a very effective way to adorn a page with color. Use a light touch for a soft look and a heavier application for more intense color. Opt for photo-safe decorating chalks, which contain concentrated pigment and are acid-free. Use them carefully and if they break, save the pieces because they still can be used for other scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving.

Paper piercing is another technique to consider for your scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving. Using a template, a piercing tool and pad, you can create a unique presentation for your cookbook / memoir. Designs can be either flat or raised but the results are endless. Many themes and styles are available and piercing can add texture or be combined with stenciling or embossing for additional enhancement of your scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving.

Punch art also offers a myriad of possibilities for your scrapbook ideas for Thanksgiving. You can use it to decorate the borders or headers of your cookbook memoir to accentuate its Thanksgiving theme. Set your own stage with the colors of the season; orange, burgundy, gold and brown. Punches are very versatile and they can be made into many shapes and sizes, only limited by the confines of your imagination. Some of the more common punches are standard geometric shapes, hearts, stars, spirals, leaves and bears. Like the words to that old song, when it comes to punches for scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving, anything goes.

So consider your cookbook / memoir scrapbooking ideas for Thanksgiving as something your family will treasure for many holiday seasons to come. Get inspired to make it a unique creation that will bring pride to any bookshelf in your home. Let your imagination run free and wild while remembering to have a happy, healthy and memorable Thanksgiving holiday.

*A Scrapbooking Album*

*Adhesives*
You certainly don’t want your scrapbook pieces falling apart on you. Unfortunately, that might be exactly what happens if you chose the wrong adhesive. As a rule, any kind of children’s glue or cheap gluesticks will cause problems. Some of the best adhesives are photo tab dispensers, and double sided tape runners. Whatever adhesive you chose, make sure that is acid-free.
*Tweezers*
Unless you want to get your hands messy and smudge up your scrapbook pages you’ll need some tweezers. They make placing small pieces on your scrapbook a snap.
*Scrapbook Paper*
Make sure the size of your scrapbook paper matches the size of the album you are using. Great scrapbooking paper will be also be acid-free and may be described as buffered or lignin-free. Card stock is also a great paper to have around as it can be used for many things related to scrapbooking.
*Pen*
A good pen is also a must for scrapbooking. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just a basic black pen that is acid-free. You may want to add more pens with different colors as your scrapbooking kit grows.
*Paper Trimmer*
A paper trimmer is a necessary tool for cutting straight and making squares. There are several different sizes of trimmer and all of them are useful. It’s probably best to start with a 12″ paper trimmer but you may also want to get a smaller one for portability reasons.
*Eyelet Setter Kit*
Some of our favorite scrapbooks use eyelets for embellishments. Without an eyelet setter kit you won’t be able to use these handy little guys. Fortunately they are easy to find online or at most craft stores. They are also affordable.
*Embellishments*
These are the little things that give a scrapbook character: Stickers, eyelets, buttons, charms, etc. Go for embellishments that match the theme of your scrapbook. Have fun collecting these!
*A Great Scrapbooking Book*
Need some scrapbooking ideas? You’ll usually be able to get some inspiration if you have a good idea book around. Becky Higgins and Tracy White are both authors who have written some fantastic books on the subject of scrapbooking.

Not only is scrapbooking a fun hobby and a great way to save and display your own personal family photos, you’ll find that scrapbooking makes perfect gifts for friends and family. Since scrapbooks are personal items, you may not find them suitable for acquaintances, unless you are creating custom scrapbooks for another person. For example, someone in your work place may ask you to create a scrapbook for someone who is retiring. You’ll be amazed how once people find out about your talent and passion for scrapbooking, that everyone will want one. But in general, you’ll find that creating scrapbook gifts for your parents, siblings, children, and close friends is an excellent gift and one that is greatly appreciated.

One of the fun parts of creating scrapbooking gifts are in gathering resources and research. This is one project that you can’t expect to complete on your own. A close accomplice is essential. You’ll have to brush up on your sleuthing skills and take out your detective cap as you whisk photos away from your intended recipients. With a computer and scanner, you can copy photos without anyone ever noticing and have the perfect images for completing your projects. Be sure to take current photos as well. It’s also a great idea that you always leave some blank scrapbooking pages. This way, your recipient can choose to add several photos of his or her own to the scrapbook. A surprise scrapbook makes an excellent gift for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and retirements.

If you don’t like surprise, or simply feel that it will be too difficult to get the photos that you need without the recipient being aware of your intentions, you may want to let the recipient know that you are planning on creating a scrapbook for them as a gift. This way, they can be included in the planning process and will help choose the photos that they want included. You won’t need to feel uncomfortable about this. People love to receive scrapbooks and it isn’t the element of surprise that makes these gifts special, it is the time and skill that you will invest in the project that makes them endearing. So, make sure that you spend plenty of time beforehand determining if it would be better to keep the gift a surprise, or whether you would like to enlist the services of the recipient. You may find that it is just simpler, easier, and results in a better gift to have the recipient select the content for the scrapbook.

Another scrapbook gift that you may want to let the recipient know you are planning on making is a bridal/wedding scrapbook. The bride to be will be more than delighted with the gift and will gladly share her collection of pictures, treasures, and sentimental items for the scrapbook. This is another gift where you will want to leave a few blank pages to ensure that the bride can include some of her most treasured and personal moments.

Holiday scrapbooks are also excellent gifts. These can be created without the help of the recipient. Since these scrapbooks do not necessarily need to reflect momentous milestones in a life, you can use current photos and create the scrapbook as a memory book for events that transpired during that holiday season. These make excellent surprise gifts and are treasured for years to come. There are numerous embellishments that are available to accessorize holiday inspired scrapbooks. There is no doubt about it, no matter what the occasion, scrapbooks make perfect gifts.

If you’ve ever wondered how scrapbooks began you’re not alone. Most people are familiar with the photo album and understand that once the camera enabled people to have their own photos, these photos were stored and organized in a sensible manner. However, scrapbooks are a bit more detailed than photo albums. Scrapbooks also contain other information, documents, text, and images than mere photographs. In fact, the art of scrapbooking includes using other items that are appropriate for the subject and displaying them in a creative and beautiful manner. Scrapbooks are much more than photo albums. They have the ability to tell a story, and are comparable to journals with photos. They are true memory books and are very sentimental. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Every picture tells a story,” well, scrapbooks provide the room to “tell the story” alongside the photo.

The inherent wonder and beauty of scrapbooks is found in the fact that generations may not only view the photos as they would in a family photo album, but have a theme, style, and journalized information to help explain the photos as well. Since scrapbooks are often customized and designed according to a theme, it makes it much simpler and more organized for readers to understand what was taking place in each photo.

However, what may be interesting to realize, is that scrapbooking is in fact older than photo albums. Before there were cameras and family photos, there were news clippings, magazine stories, drawings, notes, and memorabilia. These items were often arranged and displayed in books and the art of scrapbooking was formed. It is said that both Mark Twain, the writer, and Thomas Jefferson, the politician, were both avid scrapbookers. They kept close journals, records, and details of their lives by creating scrapbooks that displayed personal memorabilia.

Not only is scrapbooking a step above the traditional family photo album, scrapbooks are also very popular for those who are involved in genealogy. In the past, these scrapbooks were referred to as memory books, and they were used to document family journeys across generations. It was only logical that these books would contain personal information to help explain the nature of each memorabilia that was included.

Scrapbooks offer many more advantages than traditional photo albums. The way scrapbooks are displayed, the ability to create books with themes, and the ability to pour out your own creativity, heart, and soul into your scrapbook is a benefit not provided with photo albums.

Another important aspect of scrapbooking is that old photos that are in traditional photo albums are often displayed in paper that contains acid. Over a period of years, this paper deteriorates and leaves the photos to become damaged. It is imperative that old photos are removed from these albums and displayed in safe, acid free binders or papers. Many people are choosing to replace photo albums with scrapbooks to not only protect their sentimental photos, but to combine them with journaling and other important memorabilia. The popularity of scrapbooking continues to rise as more people discover the benefits and advantages of using scrapbooks as compared to photo albums.

Mementos including cards, photos and other paper materials can now be simply turned into scrapbooks, which are a original and fun method to display your family memories. For kids, scrapbooking is a wonderful way to combine many facets of graphic arts. In this article we will explain how to design a scrapbook for kids, creating projects that will turn crafts into delightful memories!

Scrapbooking is amonst the most entertaining and enjoyable ways of keeping memories safe and meaningful to view. By collecting and keeping bits and pieces of memories as one, anybody can create and tell a story. For kids, scrapbooking is a learning experience, educating them the values of resourcefulness, inspiration, patience, and perseverance.

Scrapbooking is a fun activity you can work on with your children. It can also be a project they can enjoy with their playmates and friends. Before you get started teaching your kids the beauty of scrapbooking, there are some things you need to consider.

The first idea to consider is their interest in the arts. If your child is drawn to the arts and collecting keepsakes to create a new work of art, then she or he will gravitate toward the activity. They have already shown the drive and the creativity needed to create their masterpiece.

If your child is not yet drawn to arts and crafts, it doesn’t mean they cannot learn about scrapbooking. As a matter of fact, this is the right time to introduce them into this exciting and enjoyable activity.

Apart from your child’s interest in arts and crafts, another thing you need to consider is the availability of space where your kids can set up their workspace. Because scrapbooking requires a lot of materials, you will need a space big enough for them to spread out and arrange the materials for creating the scrapbook. It is advisable that you provide a space where kids can work on their scrapbooks and a place where they can organize their supplies. If you plan to teach your kids scrapbooking, invest in boxes, bins, file folders or other storage systems to keep different items apart from one another.

Next, you need to think about the amount of materials your child will need. As you are about to teach them basic scrapbooking, you can use materials from around your home. Here’s a basic list of the materials and supplies your children will need: paper or scrapbook paper, pens and colored pencils, photos, tools such as scissors and stickers. Other items can include albums and scrapbooking magazines for ideas. If you work on a scrapbook for kids, you will need to help your children create an overall theme for the scrapbook or just focus on individual pages, such as a birthday page.Here are a few cost saving tips for parents who wish to teach their children scrapbooking, but choose not to purchase costly scrapbooking supplies and materials:1. Collect old pictures and your youngsters cut out the photos you no longer need.

2. Whenever you go to the photo lab, ask for the double prints and permit your children experiment with the second print.

3. After finishing a specific project, make sure that you put the leftovers and unused scraps in a container so the kids can enjoy it for another scrapbooking session.

4. Look through your office supplies and magazines and let your kids use any items you are no longer involved in.

5. Help your kids form their thoughts and visual themes before gluing down any materials to the scrapbook paper. Be sure to help them decide the correct order for gluing, so that items are displayed correctly.

When working on a scrapbook for kids, remember that part of your job will be to provide the organization necessary for kids to select the images and materials they wish to use. Children scrapbooking projects are for kids of any age. Simply use materials that are age-appropriate. A photo from school, treasured pictures and even greeting cards can be transformed into collages that will speak volumes for years to come.

If you’ve been scrapbooking for a while, you know how easy it is to get burnout and lack of motivation to create pages. It seems we still tend to pile up a stack of photos just waiting to be placed in an album, but we haven’t found just the right paper or embellishments yet, or maybe we can’t decide what scrapbooking techniques to use on them. Here are a few ideas to help overcome scrapbooking burnout.
1. Learning a new technique can spark your creativity. Just find some photos and try out the technique. It’s always best to try a new scrapbooking method as soon after you learn it as possible.
2. Ignore the backlog of photos and just scrap one photograph. Choose a favorite photo, and make it your focal point. Sometimes getting started is all the motivation you need.
3. Clean out your photos. Why are you hanging onto blurred or poor quality photos? Give yourself permission to toss them, and watch your backlog shrink.
4. Your supply stash can bring inspiration. Organize your supplies, and see if you are inspired to mix embellishments or papers in a new way.
5. Flip through scrapbooking magazines for inspiration. They are filled with great page ideas, techniques to try and information on the latest products.
6. Sign up for a scrapbooking class. The excitement of a class is a terrific boost to motivate you to get more pages done.
7. Gather your friends together for a scrapbooking crop. There’s inspiration and motivation in numbers. If you prefer not to set up a party of your own, check out your local scrapbooking store for a group crop.
8. Browsing your local scrapbook or craft store may encourage you to start scrapbooking again. Try buying a scrapbooking kit that has everything you need to make a complete album.
9. Stop trying to be perfect. Thinking every page you create must be a work of art only stops you before you ever get started. Give yourself permission to make a less than perfect page layout.
10. Sell or giveaway some of your scrapbooking supplies. Scaling down can help you overcome supply overload. Sometimes too many choices can keep you from taking action.
11. Don’t try to make an album tonight. Just make one single page layout. One page a night leads to many completed pages over time.
12. Take a scrapbooking challenge. Many online scrapbooking communities organize challenges. The participants all follow the same basic guidelines for a page, and then show off their creations in the community gallery.
13. Have you tried digital scrapbooking? Digital scrapbooking is becoming more and more popular among scrapbookers. It’s certainly less messy than traditional scrapbooking.
14. Read online scrapbooking message boards and peek in their members’ galleries. Just reading about the excitement of other scrapbookers may jump start your own creativity.
15. Show off your scrapbooks. When was the last time you pulled out your scrapbooks when family comes to visit or let your children read through your albums? When you see all the pages you have designed, you just may be motivated to create more.
Try just a few of these ideas, and chase away your scrapbooking burnout today.

The art of scrapbooking is now a popular hobby for people who want to preserve their special memories in a creative and artistic way. To begin with it may seem a little overwhelming for people just getting started, with a deluge of scrapbooking supplies, instructional books and classes available.
However, it doesn’t need to be that way. By adopting a few simple guidelines you will find out how to buy the right supplies to create beautiful, everlasting scrapbooking pages
How To Choose Your Scrapbooking Supplies
Although the options in scrapbooking supplies are seemingly endless, there are just a few basic items that are required to begin with:
*Your photos and other memorable keepsake items and embellishments;
*An album with acid free pages so that your photos and memorabilia do not become damaged with time;
*Page protectors for your album pages;
*Decorative paper that will complement your photos and memorabilia;
*A small table-top paper cutter and scissors. There are many different scrapbooking scissors available with decorative edging effects;
*Photo safe pens;
These items are the very basics that will get you started. There are many stores dedicated solely to scrapbooking, however as the popularity of scrapbooking is growing, many department stores are now stocking a large variety of scrapbooking supplies.
How To Create Memorable Scrapbook Pages
The main purpose of your scrapbook is to use your memorable photos and keepsakes to tell a story. Some scrapbookers prefer to produce detailed pages that are like timeless artistic creations. Many literally involve hours to produce just one page and the pages sure enough are both beautiful and memorable. However, many scrapbookers do not have the time to spend hours or even days working on one page, the best way is often to keep it simple.
*Decide on a theme for your scrapbook and continue it throughout the album. It could be an album showcasing annual events, a wedding, a baby’s first year, or even an album of your family Christmas pictures.
*Pick out a couple of colours of papers and pens that complement each other, and follow the theme throughout the album;
*Use stickers and other embellishments lightly;
*Journaling is probably the finest way to create a memorable scrapbook. This allows your scrapbook to tell the stories behind the photos. People will be more impressed by the stories than of the elaborate decorations on the page;
How To Preserve Your Scrapbooks Correctly
Storing your scrapbook is important. A lot of time and effort has been invested in your creation, so care needs to be taken to store your scrapbooks correctly in order to preserve your memories.
*Make sure all of the materials you use to create your scrapbook, such as your album, papers, stickers and even the pens, are photo safe and acid free;
*Always use page protectors to prevent your pages from being damaged;
*Do not expose your scrapbooks to extreme temperatures, or damp environments such as basements or attics. Always store your albums in a temperature controlled room in an upright position;
Following these simple guidelines should make it easy for you to start capturing your special memories. Creating your very own scrapbook is something that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
